The Step Taken

On a cloudy day, going into a rainy night
When the sun is out and it's a starless sky
He stood still on the doorstep ready for a stride
But with his head facing the door, he could not walk.

Progress is slow and stress if building high
He must decide sooner, with a heavy sigh
Something must be done, should have been done
Today, He will, and it will be done.

His head is in full contemplation
His future is unsure, but decision must be taken
This is the time, the best at that for a stand
Now he knew, it's difficult when time makes it's demand.

Reality bites and he took a breath
A breath so deep that his lungs complained
He needed air, and air is there, out in the open
Something must be done, and must be done now!

She spoke and that made him shaking
He trembles and bended a knee to fight from falling
He must not fall, never in this moment
He must stand, He must make a stand.

He composed himself and gather his thoughts
He is alright, and will be alright
Today he will make a stand
Today, something will be done.

He shook his head and his fingers combed his hair
Placed both hands in his pockets and blew a breath of fresh air
With one final movement, he took one quick stride
Stride after stride, step after step.

He crossed the path in the midst of the rain
His stride is strong, his steps are sure
He had mustered the last of his strength and took that step
The one necessary step to his freedom, then he was gone!
